Confidential intake
Separate meetings with each side before the session. Dr. Singh reviews pleadings, key facts, and each party’s real interests — not just their legal positions. This is where trust in the process is built.
Pre-session preparation
Written mediation briefs are reviewed. Settlement authority is confirmed. Dr. Singh identifies the key pressure points and designs a session structure accordingly.
Joint opening & caucus sessions
Dr. Singh opens the joint session to establish ground rules and allow each party to be heard. Caucus sessions then allow candid exploration of settlement parameters without positional anchoring.
Evaluation & reality testing
Where useful, Dr. Singh offers a frank assessment of the risks and costs of continued litigation for both sides — not as pressure, but as an honest professional perspective that helps parties calibrate.
Agreement & documentation
Settlement terms are reduced to writing on the day. Dr. Singh assists parties in ensuring the agreement is clear, comprehensive, and durable.
A short, honest fit check.
- Both the employee and employer want to avoid a public court record
- The legal and business costs of litigation are becoming disproportionate to the claim
- Decision-makers with settlement authority can participate
- The relationship — or at least professional reputation — matters to both parties
- The case involves nuanced factual or credibility issues better suited to mediation than a jury
- One party is seeking a public precedent or policy change rather than individual resolution
- There is a parallel criminal investigation that needs to conclude first
- The employer representative in the room lacks full settlement authority
- One party is using mediation as a delaying tactic with no genuine interest in resolution
Quiet outcomes, in their own words.
Dr. Singh does an excellent job of summarizing concepts. His communication skills are fantastic. I enjoyed how he tied communication concepts to being used not just in mediations but in everyday situations.

April 2024
He was gracious with his time, a great listener, facilitator, and host, and was very appreciative and respectful of other speakers and students.

February 2024
He made me feel welcomed and valued throughout the course. He was engaging and kept everyone's attention, which can be difficult to do in a virtual course.
