Community & faith context intake
Dr. Singh conducts extended intake meetings — often with multiple representatives of each faction or community. Understanding the history, the theology, and the community dynamics is essential before any negotiation can begin.
Pre-session trust building
In faith-based disputes, trust in the mediator is non-negotiable. Dr. Singh often meets with community elders, religious leaders, and counsel separately before the first joint session — ensuring all parties feel that the process itself is fair.
Structured dialogue sessions
Sessions are designed to give all voices — not just legal representatives — appropriate space. In community-level disputes, facilitated dialogue may precede formal negotiation.
Interest-based negotiation
Dr. Singh guides parties from entrenched positions (who owns the building, who controls the funds) toward the underlying community interests at stake — allowing creative solutions that courts cannot provide.
Documented agreement & community communication
Agreements in faith-based disputes often need to be communicated to the wider community, not just the parties. Dr. Singh supports parties in crafting agreements that can be presented to their communities with integrity.
A short, honest fit check.
- The dispute is within a religious community that values internal resolution over public litigation
- The parties share a faith tradition and want a process that honors it
- Civil rights concerns are present but a negotiated outcome is preferred over a public precedent
- Community healing — not just legal resolution — is a goal
- The conflict involves property, finances, or governance questions that can be resolved through agreement
- A party is seeking a binding legal precedent on religious rights that only a court can establish
- There are allegations of criminal conduct — abuse, fraud, or violence — within the religious organization
- One faction refuses to recognize the legitimacy of the mediation process on religious grounds
- A government enforcement action is already in progress

Instructive, inspirational, approachable. For such an impressive, world-renowned professional, Dr. Singh could not have been more accessible. Having just returned from an exhausting trip to Uganda, there was no lack of energy or enthusiasm.
